My daughter and I were driving home from the Renaissance Festival Saturday and we were both sad it was ending. And we also both decided that the sadness had nothing to do with the festival. It’s the people behind the festival that we’ll miss. And one in particular who has made a forever lasting impact on our lives.
Here are some of the last photos from this series. I’m not sure this project will ever end (at least I hope it doesn’t). But for now…
From my ongoing series about workers behind the Renaissance Festivals:

This is part 1 of my series documenting the workers and families behind Renaissance Festivals in America.
Thanks to my tour guide and inspiration for this project, Kristin. Uncommon, raw, honest and beautiful.
I started this project for a couple of reasons:
1. I wanted to capture raw honest images of real people.
2. I have a curiosity about how someone gets to the place of being without a home in this nation. Even more so why someone chooses to stay out there.
3. Growing up my dad spent a lot of time with homeless people. He helped strangers. It was just his thing. At one point he had a shelter and as a result I was around homeless people more than the average kid.
Almost everyone I got to know when I was out there shooting had a significant mental illness or were addicts. Some were on the road to recovery and some would rather die on the streets than conform.
I do have a better understanding of why my dad did what he did. I know that I walked away from every encounter feeling good. A little more connected…

I created a new section called “Around Town” that I’ll continue to add to. This gallery consists of random images of people and events around Atlanta.
Enjoy and check back for more,
