I’ve met him a few times but can’t remember his name. He hangs out in the courtyard in Little Five Points (Atlanta) daily. He makes money by spitting out rhymes for people passing by. Give him a few bucks and 4 words and you get a custom poem, on the spot. Blows me away with his gift every time.

Dancing with Fire

Taylor and I hit the drum circle again Saturday night. Really a good time. I kept stealing her drum so I think at some point I’m going to have to invest in one.

I was a little blown away by the images I got. They convey the spirit and energy of the experience better than words could so I’ll shut up. Enjoy!

The Monastery

I went to the monastery in Conyers today. It was a good get away for a couple of hours.

My biggest question to myself was “what makes someone choose a life of solitude?” I met an 81 year old monk who had been at the monastery for 50 years and I wish I would have asked him but… hindsight.

It’s a peaceful existence and I almost get it. Definitely a reminder that my life is better when I keep it simple.

Trip to the Past

Copper John – Homeless Series

I’ve known Copper John for about 4 years now. He’s lived on the streets in the Little Five Points neighborhood for about 15 years. John sits on the curb and makes trinkets and jewelry out of scrap metal and sells them. I’ve never witnessed him beg. Somehow he always has a smile on his face.

Every time I see him he says “Hey man, when you gonna bring me one of those pictures you took of me”. I need to get on that.

While Eating Pizza

I was eating a slice at this pizza place in Little Five Points today and this guy was playing on the street in front of me. It was worth getting a little grease on my camera to get these shots.

Iran Rally Today

Taylor and I went down to show support for the struggle for freedom in Iran today. I say I support a lot of issues but rarely do I take action. A friend of mine helped organize it and that’s the reason I went. But I left knowing that our presence made a small difference.

And… what kind of father would I be if I didn’t take my daughter to protest injustice? My kid should know that she doesn’t ever have to live with what the world tells her she deserves. I think that’s what she took away from the experience. She has a voice.

4th of July Drum Circle

I’ve wanted to go to the drum circle at the land trust in Atlanta for a long time. Buying Taylor a new Djembe for her birthday gave me the excuse I needed.

The words that come to mind: Raw, spiritual, organic, sensual, beautiful, intense, primitive, one. We’ll be back for sure.

With no flash or tripod I played with the light from the fire.
