So… there’s this self portrait contest right? I say to myself, “self, you need to enter that contest.” After all, the grand prize is 6 months accommodations in NY or $7007. Not a bad deal at all.

I had to come up with something unique, funny and slightly demented, cause that’s just what I do. Oh and sufficiently self deprecating. AND it had to relate to what I do.

Special thanks to Suzanne Tran for her creative input and all around help pulling this off.

The latest in the Naked America series occurred over the weekend. I met this couple in the Little Five Points neighborhood in downtown Atlanta. They were boxcar travelers and were in Atlanta temporarily trying to hop a train and head out west. I told them about the project and they were all over it.

Coincidentally they had just gotten married the day before. They told me the ordained minister passed out twice from too much cheap liquor while trying to marry them. After jarring him awake, they were finally pronounced husband and wife. I was glad to be part of their honeymoon bliss!

I believe they inspired a new series I’m going to call “True Romance”. The name is from one of the best movies ever made and fits what I have in mind perfectly. Stay tuned for more on that!

I went to Oakland Cemetery yesterday to take some pictures with a friend. It’s one of my get away spots in town. I get to relax and snap pics or just chill with the dead civil war soldiers. It’s the oldest cemetery in the southeast and there is an endless supply of objects begging to be photographed.

I’ll explain my thoughts behind this series once a few more people have been shot for it. Til then… See the rest here

I’ve met him a few times but can’t remember his name. He hangs out in the courtyard in Little Five Points (Atlanta) daily. He makes money by spitting out rhymes for people passing by. Give him a few bucks and 4 words and you get a custom poem, on the spot. Blows me away with his gift every time.

Taylor and I hit the drum circle again Saturday night. Really a good time. I kept stealing her drum so I think at some point I’m going to have to invest in one.

I was a little blown away by the images I got. They convey the spirit and energy of the experience better than words could so I’ll shut up. Enjoy!

I went to the monastery in Conyers today. It was a good get away for a couple of hours.

My biggest question to myself was “what makes someone choose a life of solitude?” I met an 81 year old monk who had been at the monastery for 50 years and I wish I would have asked him but… hindsight.

It’s a peaceful existence and I almost get it. Definitely a reminder that my life is better when I keep it simple.
