China Doll Latest Storyville Post
Mar 112010

I’ve gone back and forth with posting these pictures. Some of my favorite work is by photographers who take honest artistic license with those in their live’s. Perhaps the best example of this is Sally Mann.

I admire her and other artists for their honest documentaries… glimpses into their world.

I want the same to be reflected in my work with those who are deeply embedded in my little world. Suzanne graciously allows me to pull out my camera at the most inopportune and sometimes intimate times. Thank you for your friendship and love.

wasn’t sally mann the photographer that got into some hot water some yrs back with regard to concerns over some critics labelling her work ‘pornographic’ in nature? It had something to do with the fact she had photographed her children …just being…very young ,as they were at the time. it was rather an absurd critique I thought. But Im sure it was sally mann that was the unfortunate subject of that criticism.
I Like her work. I saw a documentary about her over a yaer ago. She uses a lot of older equipment for her work it looked like. But amazing results, and very dedicated artist.

Hey Sarah, thanks for the comment. Yes to all of that. It was a ridiculous witch hunt. Fortunately it all turned out OK.
